Alvin Ramsaran

An Electrical Engineer by profession, Mr. Alvin Ramsaran has been practicing in this field for 19 years and is presently employed with the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) as Assistant Area Manager. Mr. Ramsaran holds a BSc Degree (Hons) and MASC (Distinction) in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a specialisation in Power and Energy Systems. He also lectures on a part time basis in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of the West Indies in the field of Energy Systems and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
His tenure in T&TEC has resulted in him receiving training in various disciplines including Finance, Management, Safety and Industrial Relations to name a few.
Between 2009 and 2010, Mr. Ramsaran conducted research on the feasibility of using Wind Turbines for voltage support in south-east Trinidad. This research paper was presented in the IEEE Latin American Conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil in November 2010 and was subsequently published. He also worked with the Engineering Institute of the University of the West Indies in developing a Renewable Energy Policy for Trinidad and Tobago.
In his leisure time, Mr. Ramsaran is involved in sporting activities including cricket, badminton and volley ball and is a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Trap and Skeet Association. Relaxation comes in the form of playing his guitar, singing karaoke and cooking.
As far as Mr. Ramsaran is concerned, “nothing is impossible and failure is never an option.” He advocates that success is not measured by how much wealth you attain but by the amount of lives you impact on positively on a daily basis.
